Prof. Rashmi Jain has her interest in the area of Development Communication, Gender studies, Sociology of Law, leisure studies and Sociology of health. She has been regularly taking part in conferences and seminars both in the country and abroad and has been active in organizing national and international conferences. She is widely travelled having presented papers in South Africa, Sweden, Spain, Argentina, Germany, Japan, China, Austria and Canada. She was invited as key speaker at International Conference on “The EU in a Global Perspective: Intercultural Dialogue across Three Continents – EU- USA- ASIA” at Hochschule Bremen University of Applied Sciences, Bremen, Germany and also addressed the Bremen Parliament on cooperation between India and European Union.


Prof. Rashmi Jain

She is Convener of Working Group on Law and Migration of International Sociological Association since 2014. She has recently retired from University of Rajasthan in March 2025. She has served as Head, Department of Sociology, Director, UGC-MMTTC, Coordinator, Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Director, and Centre for Jain Studies besides many other positions during her service at University of Rajasthan.

She has eight books published to her credit. Her latest book ‘Urban Growth and Environmental Issues in India’, (ed.), has been published by Springer Nature, Singapore, 2021 and prior to this an edited volume ‘Global Leisure and the Struggle for a Better World (ed.) has been published by Palgrave Macmillan. She has written more than 40 research papers in national and international journals. She is Convener of Working Group on ‘Law and Migration’ of Research committee on Sociology of Law of International Sociological Association. She has been Convener of Research committee on Sociology of Law of Indian Sociological Society from 2010-19.

Besides being an academician, she has been working for raising voice for destitute women and citizen issues by collaborating with civil society organizations of Rajasthan. She has been Joint Secretary of Rajasthan University Women’s Association for four years. She is also Founder Secretary of SUMEDHA, an NGO working in the field of education since 1999. Through SUMEDHA, she provides financial assistance to 500 needy poor students for higher education every year. Till now she has helped more than 6000 students in pursuit of higher education.

She is also member of Ethics Committee for clinical trials at Fortis Hospital and Monilek Hospital and Research Centre, and member of several bodies of the University and state government.
