University of Technology Celebrated Anti-Ragging Week From 12th – 18th August 2024
The University of Technology, Jaipur, successfully celebrated Anti-Ragging Week from 12th to 18th August 2024 across all its schools. The week-long event aimed to promote mental health awareness, focusing on ragging and bullying, and to psycho-educate young student leaders and faculty members about the importance of creating a safe, inclusive campus environment.
The program was graced by esteemed guests, Dr. Prem Surana, Hon’ble Chairman of UOT, and Prof. (Dr.) K. S. Rana, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of UOT.
The staff coordinators, including Dr. Rajeev Kukkar (Provost), Dr. Anoop Kumar Sharma (Registrar), Prof. (Dr.) Bhuvan Chandra (Dean Academic), Dr. Vandana Singh Thakur (Dean – Department of Special Education), Dr. R.K. Sharma (Proctor), Dr. S.S. Yadav (Dean – School of Agriculture), and Er. Naresh Kumar (Convener – Anti-Ragging Monitoring Cell), ensured the smooth execution of the event.
A total of 200 students actively participated in these programs, making it a highly engaging and informative week.
The week began with an inaugural address by university authorities emphasizing the importance of a ragging-free environment. The focus was on strict adherence to UGC regulations on ragging, ensuring that students understand their roles and responsibilities in maintaining a safe campus.
Key activities during the week included:
Awareness Seminars: Multiple sessions were held to inform students about the anti-ragging laws and university policies. Speakers included legal experts and senior faculty members who highlighted the legal consequences of ragging and the need to report any incidents immediately.
Pledge Ceremony: Students, faculty, and staff participated in a mass pledge-taking ceremony, vowing to uphold the values of dignity and respect and to actively stand against any form of ragging.
Interactive Workshops: Workshops were organized on topics such as “Building Peer Relationships” and “The Psychological Impact of Ragging,” helping students develop empathy and understand the long-term effects of bullying behaviour.
Poster Making Competition: Students showcased their creativity by participating in a poster-making competition. The posters, which carried strong anti-ragging messages, were displayed across campus to further spread awareness.
Student-Led Rallies: A rally was held on the final day, with students marching across campus holding banners and chanting slogans against ragging, symbolizing the university’s unified stand against this harmful practice.
On the concluding day, Dr. Anshu Surana, Chairperson – University of Technology, delivered an inspiring message. As the chief guest, he highlighted that celebrating National Anti-Ragging Day and Anti-Ragging Week marks an important milestone in promoting a safer, more inclusive campus environment. His words emphasized the importance of unity, respect, and vigilance and ensured that the university remains a space where every student feels safe and valued.
