About NSS

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a government-sponsored public service program under the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. It provides opportunities to students pursuing technical, graduate, and postgraduate studies in colleges and universities to actively engage in community service activities and contribute to nation-building initiatives.


NSS at University of Technology, Jaipur, Rajasthan

The University of Technology, Jaipur, Rajasthan was granted one Government-financed NSS unit in 2025. Since then, more than 100 students have registered as NSS volunteers.

NSS Units of the University of Technology conduct several programs that benefit not only the students but also the communities in which they work.


Aims and Objectives of NSS

  • To understand the community in which students work.
  • To understand themselves in relation to their community.
  • To identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving.
  • To develop a sense of social and civic responsibility.
  • To utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.
  • To develop competence required for group living and sharing of responsibilities.
  • To gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
  • To acquire leadership qualities and a democratic attitude.
  • To develop the capacity to respond to emergencies and natural disasters.
  • To promote national integration and social harmony.

 

Benefits of Joining NSS

An NSS volunteer, whether at the senior secondary or college level, gains several benefits, including:

  • 5% reservation in admission(or as decided by the respective institution).
  • Opportunities to understand and support underprivileged communities in rural and urban areas.
  • Training to become future leaders and decision-makers.
  • Development of essential skills required to carry out social and community programs.
  • Opportunities to participate ininter-collegiate, inter-university, and inter-state camps, enabling interaction and exchange of ideas with students from across the country.
