UOT’s Rural Excursion Program: A Big Success for Children with Special Needs
The University of Technology’s Department of Special Education successfully conducted a rural excursion program led by Dr. Vandana Singh Thakur. The program aimed to raise awareness about Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) and identify children with special needs in rural areas.
Despite the challenging weather conditions like scorching heat and sunshine, students demonstrated exceptional commitment and identified two special needs children: one with a hearing impairment and another with a physical disability.
Vice Chairman Dr. Anshu Surana praised the students’ dedication, noting their commendable efforts to make this excursion program a big success under adverse conditions.
Dr. Thakur emphasized the importance of CBR highlighting its role to provide education and rehabilitation services to children with special needs in rural areas. These programs help us understand community needs better.”
Throughout the program, students engaged with the rural community, identifying children with special needs and educating their families about the resources available for special education and rehabilitation.
This initiative not only provided a valuable educational experience for the university students but also fostered positive changes within the rural community. The University plans to continue such initiatives to further integrate special needs children into mainstream society.
