Students of B.Sc (Hons) Agriculture visited RARI Durgapura and IHITC Durgapura

On 25th February 2020, School of Agriculture, University of Technology, Vatika, Jaipur organized a visit for the students of B.Sc (Hons) Agriculture (semester II, IV and VI) at Rajasthan Agricultural Research Institute (RARI), Durgapura, Jaipur and International Horticultural Innovation Training Center (IHITC), Durgapura, Jaipur. The visit was organized as a part of the course curriculum and to observe the different activities that take place in the agriculture field. These institutions have a national and global reputation and are known for growing different types of crops such as vegetables, cereal, and pulses. A total of 20 students along with the faculty members from the School of Agriculture participated in the program.

Initially, the students visited IHITC where Mr. Vikas Singh, Subject Matter Specialist, Green House Technology was assigned by the Director of the training center for demonstration of different agricultural activities at the center. He explained the different types of shade net house and poly house. The students also learned about the technology for the cultivation of different types of flowers such as marigold, cabbage, cauliflower, and knoll kohl. Apart from this, the students were also given knowledge about the cultivation of cucumber crops, gerbera, carnation, capsicum including vegetable crops such as spinach, radish, and coriander in the greenhouse. Students got excited when they visited the orchards of mango, grapes, guava, anola, and pomegranates and further, they also understood the complete procedure for the preparation of vermicompost.

After IHITC, the students visited RARI where they were given knowledge about different types of equipment for seedbed preparation, for example, sowing equipment, threshing equipment as well grader, cleaner and power tiller. The equipment included disc plough, mouldboard plough, disc harrow, rotavator, and cultivator. Moreover, in the sowing equipment category seed drill and planter, threshing equipment category multi-crop thresher and plot thresher were displayed. The students also visited onion storage structures.

In addition to this, students also learned about the technology that is utilized for the cultivation of different types of Rabi crops such as chickpea, wheat, barley, pea, and lentil. Lastly, the students visited the meteorology center of RARI where they understood the working procedure of different equipment that is used in the meteorology. At the end of the visit, the faculty members and the students were thankful to the staff members of RARI and IHITC, Durgapura for the cooperation that they showed during the visit. Furthermore, the visit helped the students to develop their knowledge about the latest technology and techniques of cultivation in agriculture.
